The Exciting Future of Electric Cars

These cars will not only reduce the damage to our environment, but it will come along with more helpful advances as we are going to learn from this article. Car manufacturers are all up in gear to come up with the best version of these types of cars to eat the competition in the market. This will at long last benefit the customer since they will be spoiled for choice in terms of which cars from what company has better appealing characters suiting their needs.

These vehicles are already in the market already but in selected countries in the world. The real realization of more cars in our streets is expected to be in early 2018. Companies such as General Motors is said to be preparing to release their Chevrolet EV within weeks from now. Nissan is also said to have geared closer to releasing their EV before 2020.

Volkswagen showcased their electronic car model which they are calling it e-Golf ID recently in an exhibition in France. It is one of the first one to be produced by their group- Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB) that deals specifically electric cars. They are set to release it in 2020 with its reproduction set to begin in 2025.

It is expected to have a 400-600km of range. The ID electric motor is expected to be placed in the back of the car. This will allow the front while to have a lighter turning circle. The ID will also have a pilot mode. This means that the car will have an option for self-drive. This will give the driver time to chat with passengers or do other stuff.

Its horsepower will be placed in the rear will have zero emissions and with very little noise which is great for environment preservation.

Amazingly the ID will have no door mirrors commonly known as a side mirror. It will have an inbuilt camera in the front giving you the picture of how your rear, right and left look like.

The headlights are the one thing that will leave you excited. They look at the driver when approaching and signal when in ID pilot mode. A Look Back at the Most Impressive Race Car Engines

Did you know that race cars must have extremely powerful engines in order to be winners? Beside the aerodynamics that have been implemented and the modifications, the engine is what makes the car the ultimate winner.

Let's start off with the famous Formula One Ferrari. One of the most famous engines in the F1 was the Ferrari V10 F1. It was a 3.0 liter, ten cylinder racing car that was responsible for 57 wins.

The Porsche Flat 6 is another racing vehicle that left an impression on the world. It was a 2.0 liter air cooled engine. The most recent version of this Porsche has received impressive results by winning many races over the years.

The Porsche Flat 12 has one of the largest engines in the racing industry. There are two flat six engines packed into this car. It is a 4.5 liter engine which has 1500 horse power. You can imagine how cramped the driver must have been to make space for this massive machine.

The Mazda R26B 4-rotor might have been one of the craziest models in the racing industry. Having entered 21 races and only winning one might be a strange statistic. This one race was the LeMans and it made an impression as it was the only car that was not a conventional piston engine and it was a unique marque.

The BMW S14 was the start of the M-series. Winning the championship but winning no races, it was simply a 2.5 liter engine with only four cylinders.

The Audi R10-18 TDI has been through many changes over time but always had a memorable engine. Originally, this model was a petrol engine that had ten cylinders. This was entered into the LeMans race and won. However, the manufacturers decided to place a diesel engine with twelve cylinders and two turbos. Now, that is an amazing amount of power in just a single race car. Not even Formula One cars have a V12 Engine.

Ever race car has to be equipped with the finest mechanical and electrical parts. Races are there to prove the quality of the car before hitting the city streets. Racing cars also test how well an engine can cope under extreme conditions such as heat, rain and snow.

Racing tracks are also the best places for tire manufacturers to test their new products. Rubber needs to withstand heat and friction over long periods of time and track day is the time to test it.

The Silver Bullet

Three months after I graduated from college, and one month before I began flight training to become a US Naval Aviator, I bought a slightly used Datsun 280Z sports car. My father thought that I had lost my mind when I told him that I traded a three-year-old Dodge Dart that sported the accused “slant six” engine for a coupe with no trunk. I did not tell him that the loss of the tricked out stereo system (centered on an 8 track tape player) in the Dodge had bothered me the most. I gave the auto dealer my entire collection of fifty 8 track tapes with the trade in because the 280Z featured a new (at the time) cassette tape deck with the stereo system.

I named my 280Z ( sterling silver in color) “The Silver Bullet.” I became “The Lone Ranger,” not so much because of the name of my car, but because my “almost engaged with me” college girl began to question her life as a future Navy wife. She had two years of college in front of her, and I was no longer with her in Charleston, SC. Cases told her that if she married me she would become “a sea widow” when I deployed with my ship for many months at a time. Guess what? The car does make the man. The Silver Bullet became a head turner and soon I dropped the irrelevant Lone Ranger title for me.

The Silver Bullet moved like the wind itself! I especially loved to race it on I-10 (East-West Interstate Highway 10) on weekend nights when I traveled between Naval Air Station Whiting Field and Pensacola, to “Trader's Johns” (famous Naval Aviator dance and dinner club). On several occasions, the police stopped me for speeding. Lucky for me, each time, the officer wanted to check out The Silver Bullet. I showed officers how I could raise and lower the radio antenna by flipping a switch in the cockpit. Who would write a traffic ticket after seeing that?

One year after I bought the 280Z I engaged to marry a Pensacola girl. Then, I faced the grim prospect of supporting both a wife and a sports car. I negotiated with my credit union to extend the loan for the car. The loan officer told me that the credit union would only do that in an emergency situation. “I am getting married,” I disclosed, which qualified as an emergency. I got the girl and I kept the car! Six months after marriage, I received the Wings of Gold and a design as a Naval Aviator. My new wife, a guinea pig in a cage, and I drave away in The Silver Bullet on a bright summer morning, to begin the adventure that the Navy promised and delivered to us.

Some Tips For Your Car Conversion Project

Having a car has been the symbol of status from the years and will continue for many more years to come without any dispute. But, in recent years going through regular hike in the prices of fuel and gas across the world, maintaining the car is becoming quite difficult for lots of the owners and they are finding alternative ways to minimize their investment on fuel. Moreover, with increasing concern of the Government's ruling in different countries towards the pollution free vehicles, day is not away when there will be no fuel vehicles running on the roads.

Going through all these concerns, not only the car owners, but also the manufacturers have started developing strategies for manufacturing vehicles that do not run on any type of fuel. As an impact of this, endeavors for manufacturing electric vehicles has gained momentum in recent years throughout the world and today every manufacturer is launching the electric variant of its newly launched car in the market along with its regular versions running of both petrol and diesel.

Although this is an interesting and revolutionary step towards the pollution free environment and has succeeded in receiving the huge support by the people within the world, but on the other side has also developed the lines of tension on the heads of owners having luxurious cars parked in their yard. Because, in the future when there will be no fuel or the government of their country will strictly restrict the use of fuel, will their car be waste material that is of no use for them and will their money go into the waste box?

Interestingly, these owners need not have to get tensed for their car, as going through their concern lots of repairing experts are offering the facility of car conversion, and converting them existing car into an electric vehicle which is not only fuel-efficient like their existing car but also pollution free. Besides this today, you can also find conversions kits available in the market that are easy to use and can be easily used by the person having little knowledge about car mechanism. In-fact use of the electric car conversions kit is gaining huge popularity along with drivers struggling with the problem of increasing fuel consumption by their car. The power generation efficiency of the electric cars is measured in kw rather than bhp as measured for the car running on the fossil fuels.

Tips for car conversion: Now the question arises how to convert your existing car into an electric car? Before installing the kit into your car make sure that you have removed useless items like powerful sound system, or powerful lights etc from your car. 3. There will be a decline in the level of emissions generated by your existing car.

4. You will be able to drive at the speed of 65 miles an hour.

5. Finally the last but not the least, an interesting feature of the electric car is that it does not make any type of sound while driving. Therefore, if you are irritated from the irritating sound of your existing car, then converting it will get you relaxed from this problem also.

Ferrari Over the Years

In 1994, Ferrari's long term loyal customer Giampiero Moretti, FOUNDER OF MOMO was one of the few who convinced Maranello to return to sports car racing, making them understand how important it was for the company to return to this category of motorsport in their largest market that was North America. By this time, it had been almost 23-years since Ferrari last partook in the IMSA World Sports Car Championship with the Ferrari 312 PB in 1971 and hence needed a completely new car to compete.

A big part of the Ferrari F40's appeal is just how raw and unadulterated it looks. It was built as a race car for the road and it's proud of that. There's no gimmick here. This is a race car first and a road car second. The headlights and taillights are just an afterthought to make it road-compliant. The cabin is small, the seating position cramp and awkward, the suspension is hard and there's a ton of lag from the twin-turbo V8 engine … but none of that matters.

The Ferrari F40 is an experience because there's nothing quite like it. You can not just go out and buy something similar, even if you have all the money in the world. The only thing that comes close to an F40 is another F40. It was the last car signed off by Enzo Ferrari himself. On average, it is still considered to be the greatest Ferrari ever built.

The 250 was a turning point for Ferrari. It further kickstarted the company and cemented its place as a legendary car manufacturer. Classified as a sports car, the Ferrari 250 SWB was just as easily a decent GT car at heart, depending on the model. Ferrari built several different variants, but they were all called the 250. Succeeded by the 275 and the 330, it's still held in high regards by most people, considered as possibly the greatest Ferrari road car of all time.

Officially, the Ferrari 250 SWB was offered in long wheelbase, short wheelbase and Europa. The Europa was the GT of the lineup, with a length 2,800 mm wheelbase. The LWB came in at 2,600 mm, and the SWB at just 2,400 mm. The SWB was the nimblest and agile of the three, but a lot of them were convertibles. All three handled a 3.0-Liter naturally-aspirated V12 with 300 horsepower. As much as I love Ferrari's current V12s, they do not even come close to a small-capacity V12 such as the one found in the 250. It sounds mechanical and alive, if that's the exact phrasing I'm looking for. Nothing was synthetically made back then. Everything you hear comes from the engine, it comes from metal parts rubbing against one another.

Halloween Edition: What Car the Reaper Ordered

You always see the strangest cars that are associated with the Reaper in the entertainment industry. Often they are old cars, rare cars and, in some instances, sports cars that the general population can not afford. So what are some examples that could fit the profile of a Reaper?

Talbot Lago – 1937

The Talbot Lago has so many smooth sides that it looks like the kind of car that can just glide through the streets. People will make a path on the road just to let this car pass by. With such a long front, who would not mistake this car for something that belongs to a strange entity?

Rolls Royce Phantom – 1925

The body of the car looks like it's shaped to pass through any condition. With a shark fin on the back of the car it really does seem like the mean machine the Reaper would want to drive. Classic cars always get chosen for the strangest of tasks.

Morgan Aero 8 – 2000

It's strange to think that this particular car is from this era. The original styles of the popular Morgans were from the Post War era. It's known as a sports car in some regions because of the power it has. Now a collectors' car with a rich vibe to it, it can definitely pass off as the car of the Reaper.

Rolls Royce Ghost – 2010

This may be a modern, high status car but it can make for a great version of transportation for the strange Halloween figure. Make this a black car with silver trimmings and you have an idea for what the Reaper may drive.

To decorate any of these cars to make for a sophisticated character you could use trimmings along the edges and the tires should be silver for a bit of a glimmer on the roads. The body of the car should be black. Matte black is also a good option as it gives the impression of wealth and elegance. The wheels should have many spokes to give a noticeable effect so that a person knows when the Reaper approaches.

In the entertainment and costume world, these cars could really complete the whole profile of the Reaper character and it could give him a distinct personality. Although, they may seem old and worthy of being stored in a collection garage, they could certainly rock the streets on the night of a Halloween party.

The 6 Most Popular Cars on TV

Cars get their reputations from being seen on TV. Some of the cars might have impossible capabilities and this is what makes them so interesting.

Chevy Impala in Supernatural – this car was known as the Winchester vehicle. It is definitely a highlights car on anyone's list. Although the car is incredibly heavy and slower than most cars today, it was still one of the most iconic cars that have been seen on television.

The Batmobile in The Dark Knight – Can you imagine a car like this on the roads? It might be perfect for the crime fighters in our countries but imagine how much maintenance it would need after a good crime fighting session? The Batmobile was equipped with all sorts of features and we see that it had the ability to fly too. Was it jet fuel or regular petrol?

The DeLorean in Back to the Future – This was the time traveling machine of the television world. At first, we saw that it could only drive but in the next two movies, the DeLorean could fly in and out of the future. It would be amazing if we could change the year we were in with a little bit of lightning and speed.

The cartoon series always had a human behind the mask but in the first live action reboot we saw a small talking puppy as the bad guy controlling odd entities.

Mutt Cutts Van in Dumb and Dumber – Although, it was quite a dumb movie with funny moments, one of the most noticeable features was the van that the two main characters drove. The whole car was covered in faux fur material. The sides had what looked like dog ears and legs that were moveable. The front of the car had the face of a dog. This van did not look too stable and the brakes did not seem entirely safe too. What a lot of money spent on something that is probably difficult to clean.

Other famous cars that are popular includes the sports cars in The Transporter, Fast and Furious, and Iron Man. The most stunning cars in the movies made us feel like we could do anything. Their skills and braking abilities were excellent. But could you imagine how often these cars would have had to go for mechanical and brake repairs .

Interesting Facts About Lamborghini

1. Automobili Lamborghini SpA is an Italian automobile company that makes luxury, high end sports cars. Its has headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, near the city of Bologna, Italy. Lamborghini was founded by an Italian engineer Ferruccio in 1963.

2. Automobili Lamborghini SpA emerged as a result of competition between Feruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari (of Ferrari cars) who at that time already had been known as a famous manufacturer of sports cars. Ferruccio Lamborghini himself was an accomplished engineer; he was an owner and manager of a successful company, which produced agricultural machinery. Ferruccio loved sports cars and owned a Ferrari 250 GT. A rumour has it, that two great constructors had a conflict after Lamborghini had turned personally to Enzo Ferrari because of the broken clutch on his Ferrari 250 GT. It is believed that quick-tempered Enzo recommended Feruccio to deal exclusively with tractors, and never even touch a sports car. Ferruccio Lamborghini took it as a challenge resolving to use his assets, experience, and passion to found a company, capable of going toe-to-toe with Ferrari.

3. This may come up as a surprise to some of you, but Lamborghini never participated in any major motorsports competitions. According to the will of Feruccio Lamborghini, his company stayed away from racing, because the famous Italian engineer always believed the motorsports to be a big waste of time and resources.

4. One thing Lamborgini was always known for is its top-notch design. Some of the best professionals in the industry, including Franco Scaglione, Touring, Zagato, Mario Marazzi, Bertone, ItalDesign and Marcello Gandini, worked on its visual design.

5. People usually think of luxury and high-performance grand tourers, whenever someone mentions the name Lamborghini. Neverheless, the Italian automaker has created few unusual models. Feruccio Lamborghini had an extensive experience in producing tractors, so it seemed natural for him to try his hand at designing an automobile with high off-road capabilities. Lamborghini LM002 was the first SUV, built by Italian vehicle manufacturer. Combining speed and luxuriousness with exceptional off-road capabilities, Lamborghini LM002 was in many respects ahead of its time. When it comes to comfort and ability to cross the difficult terrain, only Land Rover could compete with LM002. Unfortunately, the automobile market was not quite ready for the new luxury SUV. Therefore, despite the orders from armed forces of Saudi Arabia and Libya, Lamborghini sold only 301 vehicles.

6. The Italian automaker launched its first production model in 1963. With the top speed of 280 km / h, Lamborghini 350GTV was a leader in production cars of its time.

7. The Italian company uses very distinctive naming convention for its car models. Ferruccio Lamborghini was quite a fan of Spanish bullfight. In 1963, he visited the cattle-bred farm Miura in Seville. It was owned by Don Eduardo Miura Fernandez, one of the most famous breeders of fighting bulls in Spain. This visit had a strong influence on the Italian industrialist. In fact, he was so impressed by the traditional art of bullfighting, that he made a decision to name all his new sports cars after famous fighting bulls. Traditionally in Spanish bullfight, bulls that manage to defeat a matador are given life, and their names are forever inscribed in the history of the sport. Ferruccio Lamborghini was convinced, that a name of a fighting bull will emphasize the untamed nature of sports cars created under Lamborghini marque. By the way, Ferruccio Lamborghini himself was also a bull in a sense, since his zodiac sign was Taurus. (He was born on April 28, 1916).

8. The first model to be introduced to the world under the “bullish” name was Lamborghini Miura. The sports car debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966. The public warmly received it; however, spectators were somewhat confused, since they were not allowed to open the hood. This was not a coincidence: there was simply no engine under it! Since the engine was still being designed, the prototype was sent to the Geneva Motor Show with a ballast instead of an engine under the hood. Eventually, Miura proved to be a very good car.

9. Lamborghini Countach was produced by the Italian company for 16 years (from 1974 to 1990). Notably, this sports car is one of the few Lamborghini models, with a name that has nothing to do with bulls and bullfighting. The word “countach” comes from the Piedmontese language, spoken in a region of Piedmont in North-West of Italy. It is an expression of excitation or astonishment and can be translated as “Heavens!” According to the legend, Nuccio Bertone himself made such an exclamation when he saw the first sketches of the future supercar.

10. The story of Lamborghini was not always a story of success. In 1987, the American automobile giant Chrysler, practically saved it from oblivion by acquiring it. The same year, the Italian vehicle manufacturer presented a specific concept car under the name of Portofino. It was a sedan with four doors of the guillotine type, powered by a 3.5-liter engine installed at the rear. Although it remained only a prototype, its image and design was essentially embodied in many Chrysler cars.

11. In 1994, Lamborghini was acquitted by an Indonesian investment group. It was a period of uncertainty for the Italian marque. The German automobile giant Volkswagen saved the famous vehicle manufacturer. Since 1998, Volkswagen has controlled Lamborghini through its subdivision Audi. Undoubtedly, this was a mutually beneficial union for both companies.

12. The design of modern Lamborghini is unusual even for supercars. The steel-cut body style, which became the signature of most Lamborghini models, makes it akin to fighter planes. The designer Filippo Perini admitted that he drew an inspiration from military aviation. He was specifically impressed by American B-2 and F-22 aircraft while working on Lamborghini Aventador.

13. It turned out that the powerful Lamborghini V12 engine is a perfect fit for speedboats as well as supercars. Such a technical symbiosis is not a common thing in automobile industry. The luxury boat Riva Aquarama became one of the leaders of the market thanks to high performance and versatility of the incredible Lamborghini V12 engine.

14. Interestingly, Lamborghini cars are used by the police of United Arab Emirates and Italy. It makes sense if you think about it; nothing can detract criminals and attract tourists like the world's fastest police car!

15. As we have already mentioned, Feruccio Lamborghini neglected motorsports and tried to stay away from it. Neverheless, the Italian vehicle manufacturer is revising this strict policy, since today it is a handicap for an automaker that specializes in supercars to ignore motorsports in its entity. Currently, the company has some remarkable presence in the world of car racing. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is an example of a successful collaboration between the two legendary brands. Automobili Lamborghini SpA and the Swiss watchmaker Blancpain teamed up to launch this prestigious international motor racing series. In 2009, the Swiss company even offered a special watch, dedicated to this mono-brand championship.

16. This surprises no one that Lamborghini brand has some of the most impressive achievements in the automobile world. The last one was 384 km / h speed record set by the Lamborghini Huracan during half a mile race.

17. Lamborghini has a very long and fruitful relationship with Italian wheel manufacturer PIRELLI. From the day one, PIRELLI tires were used on all Lamborghini vehicles. The Italian automaker even created the special version of Lamborghini AVENTADOR, dedicated to PIRELLI.

18. Lamborghini AVENTADOR has a design of LP 700-4 700 where “700” stands for 700 h / p engine and “4” for a four-wheel-drive.

19. Lamborghini is partly responsible for the emerging of the well-known automobile marque Pagani. The founder of the Pagani Automobili SpA, Horacio Pagani, had worked as an engineer at Lamborghini until he quit due to inability to employ his own ideas. In 1988, the famous Argentinian constructor, eager to put in use his designer talent and make his own product, created a new company Pagani Automobili SpA

20. Nowadays, Lamborghini supercars are powered by either V8 or V12 engines. The ratio between those two engine types is approximately 3: 1.

Jaguar Upgrades: To Boost Its Hidden Power And Stunning Appearance

The name of Jaguar does not require any introduction to introduce itself in the world of the auto industry. The logo of Jaguar has been the reason of pride for the Great Britain from the years and interestingly, even today it successfully holds the flag of its success with full dominance. Driving the Jaguar is the dream of every car lover, but only a few succeed in making their dream come true. The craze of car lovers towards Jaguar cars can be realized from the fact that those who are not able to buy the latest car by the maker are ready to pay any price for the classic models.

Now this might surprise to most of the people, that when Jaguar enthusiasts are ready to pay any amount for the old version of Jaguar, why not buy any of the latest models like XF, XJ or XK. Well, an answer to this question in simple words is a plethora of Jaguar upgrade options available in the market which offer them an advantage of enjoying the same power of these cars which they have been delivering during their first generation.

In the recent years trend of upgrading the mechanical features of both existing and newly purchased cars has flourished at jet dynamic speed across the world, facilitating the car and speed lover to enjoy hidden powers of their beloved car to a huge extent. And therefore upgrading the Jaguar cars is not an exception to it. The worth mentioning feature of upgrading the cars is that it makes the powerful cars more power with extra power that is derived by changing their computerized settings.

Now the question arises that what factors are looked after while upgrading any car? An answer to this question can not be given in a single sentence and need to explain the process in points, that is summarized below:

Engine remapping and tuning: You will agree that an engine is the heart of every vehicle which facilitates smooth flow of fuel and air through the different components of the car. This function is similar to the human heart, which boosts blood through the body. As a little blockage in the veins in enough to block the flow of blood to the heart, just any problem in the functioning of an engine affects the whole performance of the vehicle. To get rid of this problem regular servicing does not provide the acute solution and the problem can be solved only remapping and tuning the engine control unit of your vehicle.

The ECU is an on-the board device which can be re-mapped by erasing its existing settings with the help of required chip. The new settings are determined according to the requirements of the car owner. The engine remapping results not only in improving the power and torque generation efficiencies of the vehicle but also its fuel efficiency.

Tuning the exhaust system: Being an expert car driver you must be aware about the working of an exhaust system. The main objective of the exhaust system is to throw out the hazardous gases from engine and make a smooth flow of air to enhance the power generation efficiency of the engine. But as your car gets older the pipes used for exhausting harmful gases get older and start offering poor performance. This adversely affects the functioning of the engine. To enjoy the huge power generation capability of the engine it is imperative that you should get the pipes of exhaust system replaced with strong stainless steel pipes that are capable of handling the powerful flow of gases smoothly.

Working of the clutch system and accelerator system: The combination of clutch and accelerator in accordance with engine results in improved fuel efficiency. Therefore, once you have re-mapped the engine control unit of your vehicle it becomes mandatory for you to upgrade the clutch and accelerator units of your car compatible to new engine settings to enjoy the full benefits of engine remapping.

Upgrading the wheels with carbon fiber wheel: The upgrading of car is not stagnated only to mechanical upgrades, but also involves cosmetic updates which are helpful in enhancing the looks of your car. Installing the carbon fiber wheels will give an aggressive appearance to your Jaguar. Apart from being blessed with stunning looks these wheels are developed by making use of strong material which further strengthens their sheet.

2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat – American Muscle Car

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is a version of the 2015 Dodge Challenger with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI engine rated at 707 hp (527 kW) and 650 lb ft (881 Nm) of torque. Dodge left the power trains untouched new for the Dodge challenger hellcat. Hellcat challenger 2016 is a main salvo in the Horsepower Wars, which offering classic muscle car metal and seriously awesome engines. This engine is also available in the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. The inner driving light on the left front has been removed to allow air to get into the engine resulting in more torque, and the wheel wells are different from the standard SRT to accommodate the 20-inch aluminum wheels. This is a very difficult car to launch on a sticky drag strip.

Two types of fobs used in 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The 2016 hellcat charger will come equipped with two separate key fobs; use of the “black” fob will limit engine output to 500 horsepower, while the “red” fob will enable the full output capability.

2016 dodge challenger configurations And Acceleration:

The aptly named Hellcat has a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 good for 707 hp and 650 lb-ft, with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. The automatic is faster, hitting 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, while the manual is more fun and still quick doing 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The Hellcat has a quarter mile time of 10.85 seconds; this was accomplished with street legal drag tires. On stock tires the Hellcat was able to achieve 11.2 seconds @ 125 mph on the quarter mile. The Challenger SRT Hellcat can accelerate from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and can brake from 60-0 in 109.0ft. Top speed is 199mph to 202mph. The Challenger Hellcat has a lateral acceleration of 0.94g.

Let's talk about acceleration, if you tickle the throttle just right, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat delivers seriously awesome acceleration, which is much quicker than can be achieved with its built-in launch control feature. 0 to 60 mph happens in 3.6 seconds, 100 mph comes up in 7.8 seconds, and the quarter-mile is covered in 11.7 seconds at 126 mph, with the challenger hellcat's massive supercharger whining like a hive of angry bees the entire time. Although standing start acceleration runs in the Hellcat are breath-taking. Top gear acceleration from 30 to 50 mph and from 50 to 70 mph happens in 1.8 and 2.3 seconds. The big coupe squats back, the transmission quickly kicks down to a lower gear, and the car rockets forward, its rear tires slipping and fighting to maintain contact with the road.

Dodge Challenger Hellcat Engine:

A tamer Hellcat challenger experience can be found within the “SRT Performance Pages” of the car's standard 8.4-inch connect touch screen infotainment system. Here, car owners can adjust the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat's dampers, traction control, shifting, and horsepower settings. The latter function offers options to keep the stable doors open and let all 707 horsepower run free or to corral 207 of those ponies. The same settings can be accessed by swapping between the Hellcat's red and black proxies keys-the former defaults to the high-horsepower mode and the latter to the less-powerful option. Either way, the Hellcat remains a useful.

The engine horsepower may leave the impression that 2016 hellcat charger has created a one trick pony car, all about epic straight-line pulls, the two-door proves to be a decent partner on winding roads, so long as you keep the pace a few notches below fullout. You'd not expect so, seeing that the 6.2's iron block contributions to putting approximately 57 percent of the Hellcat's 4493 pound curve weight on its front wheels. But the Challenger Hellcat's well-sorted suspension and quick, relatively talkative steering rack keep you in control during cornering. Both the suspension and steering can be adjusted among Street, Sport, and Track settings within the SRT Hellcat Performance Pages to suit conditions and your driving style.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat specs And Interior:

Now let's come into the car and talk about the interior, comfortable seats, a modern infotainment system, and a decent ride quality make for an agreeable day-to-day partner. Tall drivers should avoid the $ 995 sunroof option, as it robs too much headroom. For the record, this SRT Hellcat weighed five pounds more than the 2015 automatic car without the sunroof. Save that money to feed the car a steady diet of premium fuel. In our hands, the Hellcat sucked down a gallon every 13 miles. The EPA rates this automatic-transmission version at 13 mpg in the city, 22 on the highway. With the standard six-speed manual, the highway rating drops to 21 mpg.

Dodge Challenger Hellcat Price:

Dodge increased $ 5200 to the automatic Challenger Hellcat's base price for 2016 (and $ 4300 for the stick-shift car), more or less keeping for itself the extra profit that dealers had been adding to the price on 2015 models, which some buyers were willing to pay for the honor of being a Hellcat early adopter. Offsetting the sticker price bump, the 2016 car comes with a standard navigation system and can be fitted with full leather seats at no cost, two popular items that combined to add $ 2490 to 2015 editions. This new SRT Hellcat also brings additional functions to the U-connect infotainment system, including drag and drop customization of the menu bar. The final price is $ 70,775 with the automatic transmission, sunroof, and summer tires.

Was the 80’s The Death of the American Petrolhead – Part 3 (Final)

I was scrolling through the brochures to see if I missed anything interesting. Ford does not seem to have many interesting vehicles sadly. Then I came across the EXP. It looks like a weird combination of the Mustang and the RX-7. This vehicle was a “sports compact” and it ran from 1982 to 1988. It shared wheelbase and powertrain with the Ford Escort, the EXP was longer, lower and more aerodynamic than its five seat counterpart.

In line with the first generation Escort, the EXP was produced in a version from 1982 to 1985, undergoing a facelift during the 1985 model year. The model was dropped after the 1988 model year. Although, not intended to replace the EXP (as it was originally designed to become the 1989 Ford Mustang), the 1989 Ford Probe would have become the next front wheel drive sports coupe sold by Ford. It was also called the Mercury LN7.

The Mercury LN7 was also front wheel drive. Almost like a front wheel drive Fiat X1 / 9. Wait, could it be? 9 plus 3 is 12 minus 2 is 10. Front wheel drive is 2 wheel drive. There are three letters in “EXP”.

There are four letters in Ford, 10 minus 4 is 6. There are 8 letters in “Bentley”; they dropped the EXP after the 88th model year. The Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 won a design award at Villa D'Este on May 26th. The Continental has a W12 engine.

The '89 Mustang was initially going to be a redesigned EXP. The EXP had 3 models which were Standard, Luxury and Turbo. The Mercury LN7 Had 10 slits in the grill, compared to the EXP's 2. I thought so, Ford and Bentley are illuminati confirmed …

But in all seriousness, it was a pretty peppy car with 120 hp from a 1.6 liter turbocharged engine with the turbo coupe. It was (like many cars on this list) very light. It only weighed 2,047 pounds.

But like Chrysler, there was much more to come …

Manufacturer: Chevrolet

So, we have the most obvious car here. (Outside of the Vette), this has to be here. While this is stretching what I said earlier, it also is not because this is the IROC-Z28. This is the interesting one.

It's much heavier than the Mustang, ranging from 3,086 to 3,362. Much like the Mustang, it had a plethora of engines. Here is the list of engines.

1982-1985: 2.5 L LQ8 / LQ9 Iron Duke I4

1982-1984: 2.8 L LC1 V6

1985-1989: 2.8 L LB8 V6

1990-1992: 3.1 L LH0 V6

1982-1983: 5.0 L LU5 Small-Block V8

1982-1987: 5.0 L LG4 Small-Block V8

1983-1986: 5.0 L L69 Small-Block V8

1988-1992: 5.0 L LO3 Small-Block V8

1985-1992: 5.0 L LB9 Small-Block V8

1987-1992: 5.7 L L98 Small-Block V8

Much like the Mustang, it had quite a few transmissions as well. Either a 4 or 5 speed manual or a 3 to 4 speed automatic. Like the Mustang, you could get a convertible or coupe variant. But there was no fastback. The new Camaro received positive reviews for its styling and handling but was also criticized for the low power ratings for the Camaro Z28.

But this is not the vehicle that caught my eye, nope.

it's a Chevrolet Citation. I know, I know !!! You do not like the Citation, this one's different however. It's the X-11, the sporty one.

With the performance enhanced Citation X-11, Chevrolet wanted to remind the car buying public this front wheel drive newcomer was made by the same people as the Corvette and Camaro. They even went to race it in the SCCA! “The SCCA classified the X-11 in Showroom Stock Class B. In 1981, the X-11 got itself to SSB National Championships in 1982 and 1984. Impressive right?

You could get it with either a 4 speed manual or a 3 speed automatic. You also got sport type suspension, Goodyear P205 / 70R-13 white lettered tires with rally rim trim and a rear spoiler.

You could also get the Pontiac 2.5-liter 4 cyl Iron Duke or the optional Chevrolet 2-bbl LE2 2.8-liter V6 engine that produced 115 hp (86 kW). Later in its life, the Citation X-11 got a handling upgrade as well.

This is the fourth gen Monte Carlo, the SS weighing in at 3,239. This weight makes it lighter than the heaviest Camaro, but not by much. This had many engines, so many so I could not be bothered to list them XD. Interestingly enough in 1985, they resurrected the option for a T – Top. I guess T – Tops were a 80's thing? It also had P205 / 70R-14 Goodyear Eagle GT tires.

For 1986, there were four distinct body styles available. The base model Sport Coupe was still available with the same general body panels that it had since 1981, but featured new “aero” side mirrors similar to those on Camaros and Chevrolet Corvette of the 1980's.

Sadly, the later generations of the Monte Carlo got worse and ending up being just an Impala Coupe in 2006.

GMC had something up its sleeves though …

Manufacturer: GMC

The Syclone! That's right! Did you think I was going to let this one slide? Nope! This was a competitor to the Shelby Dakota shown earlier on.

Both the Syclone and Typhoon trucks featured a Mitsubishi sourced turbocharger and Garrett intercooler. They were attached to a V6 engine with unique pistons, head gaskets, take manifolds and exhaust manifolds. All Syclones and Typhoons had a 4-speed automatic transmission. With a rear wheel bias (aka power distribution). Both trucks featured sport configurations to the standard suspensions. The Syclone was the first production truck to receive a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system. Output was 280 hp and 350 lbâ ™ ft. The Syclone (when new) was capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and could do a quarter mile run in 14.1 seconds at 93 mph.

This was a hot little pickup. While it was born after the 80's, it still had the 80's spirit coursing through its veins.

Manufacturer: Pontiac

Ah the Fiero. Some would say it's the “poor man's Ferrari”. Others would go as far as saying it's the “poor man's MR2”. Whatever you think of it, this was an oddball. The Fiero was conceived as a small, two-seater sports car with all new suspension and V6 engine. While General Motors management and accountants were opposed to investing in a second two-seater sports car that might compete with the Corvette, they perceived the oil crisis as a market opportunity for a fuel efficient sporty commuter car.

To this end, the Fiero was re-designed to use a fuel efficient version of GM's 2.5 L four cylinder, “Iron Duke” engine capable of 27 mpg-US in the city and 40 mpg-US on the highway with the economy ratio transmission option.

Sadly, the Fiero is not the fastest of all the small cars. But the owners are some of the most loyal that you can come across. This makes it a diamond in the rough.

No, this is not the “Smokey and the Bandit” generation of Trans Am. But it's still an interesting vehicle nonetheless. If anything, this is actually cooler than its Camaro twin.

The 3rd Generation of Firebirds consist of three models: Firebird, Firebird S / E, and Firebird Trans Am. The Firebird was the base model equivalent to the Camaro Sport Coupe; the Firebird S / E was the luxury version; and the Trans Am, the high performance version. Although, it was a heavy car compared to other vehicles in this article, weighing at at 3,170 pounds. This generation of Firebird and Camaro were slower when compared to their heritage; they were not all bad either.

Manufacturer: AMC

Yep, while the Gremlin died 2 years before the birth of the 80's, it had its spirit. In its final year of 1978, the Gremlin received a number of changes, but customers on a tighter budget could still get a standard six cylinder base model Gremlin for under $ 3,400.

At mid – season, a GT package became available with a front spoiler and flared wheel openings as on the 1978 AMX. The GT added an aluminum overlay to the instrument panel which was powered by the 258 cu in (4.2 L) I6 as standard, and had its own stripe scheme: a wide tape stripe, outlined by a narrow one, ran back from the front fenders and widened aft of the rear quarter windows.

While a lot of people hate this car, it's actually pretty good. And nowdays is a collectible.

This did the Subaru thing did before Subaru! AMC predated them by 17 years … Let that sink in …

This was the original Subaru 22B. The AMC Eagle was versatile, decently quick, interesting and very very cool. This is giving me the impression of a factory Road kill car. Now (thankfully) this came with an understandable amount of engines. Here is the list.

150 cu in (2.5 L) AMC I4

151 cu in (2.5 L) GM Iron Duke I4

258 cu in (4.2 L) AMC I6

219 cu in (3.6 L) VM I6 turbo diesel

You could choose between a 4 speed or 5 speed manual. You could get a 3 speed automatic … But it was for the turbo diesel only.

For 1981, AMC launched the Eagle SX / 4 and Kammback; these were both 4×4 versions of the AMC Spirit. The Spirit itself was a revised AMC Gremlin with larger rear quarter windows. SX / 4 being smaller than the Concord based Eagles, weighed in at 3,033 lb – around 230 lb less – and got better mileage with the automatic. Griffith made a limited number of Eagle and Concord “Sundancer” convertibles, with fixed Targa band, removable T-tops and droppable canvas rear top.

For 1982, Eagles could be switched from four wheel drive to rear wheel drive with “Select Drive.” This was a less sophisticated system, but less expensive as well. Drivers had to stop the car to shift, but did not have to leave the car to use the “fingertip control” lever. It retained the controlled slip differential and allowed for somewhat higher gas mileage in rear wheel drive mode.

Much like many of the other cars on this list, they went racing with it. Gene and Gary Henderson raced an Eagle SX / 4 (née Spirit) in the SCCA Pro Rally. Sadly, after the Eagle (and very much the Eagle SX / 4), AMC was killed.

Now, we're going to get into the 80's people remember. Stuff like the Dodge Mirada, Aries K, Celebrity, Cavalier and so on and so forth.

Disclaimer I'm not saying I do not like these cars, but these are some of the cars people mock and generally say are the reason as to why the 80's were awful.

Also, there are two cars per manufacturer, because it's harder to tell people the 80's were good than bad. Without further delay, let's get into it.

Manufacturer: Dodge

Ah the Diplomat, with its interesting diplomacy it handled the 80's in a classy way such as strolling through the streets in a suit with a top hat. Starting with the 1977 model year, the Diplomat became a full model line, rather than as the name of a particular body style. It was a longer, fancier up¬market version of the F-body Aspen. The chassis and mechanical components are identical, and doors and various other body panels are interchangeable. It also had three engines, 225 cu in (3.7 L) Slant 6 I6, 318 cu in (5.2 L) LA V8 and 360 cu in (5.9 L) LA V8 and many transmissions.

4 – speed A833 manual

3 – speed A727 automatic

3 – speed A904 automatic

3 – speed A999 automatic

Sadly, people only see this as a granddads car.

The Aries, a car that gets more hate then it really deserves. The Reliant replaced the Plymouth Volaré / Road Runner. The Aries replaced the Dodge Aspen. Although similar in exterior size to a compact car, the Reliant's interior volume and six passenger seating cover it a mid¬size design from the EPA. That's pretty good for a small car.

The Reliant and the Aries sold 150,000 units in 1981. Like a lot of 80's Dodges, it was very light. It was only 2,300 pounds. By comparison, the Lotus Evora weighs 3,049 pounds … Do you need some time?

You need another comparison? NB Miata. 2,348 pounds.

Sinking in … Still sinking in … And yet, even with this. People still mock this vehicle.

Manufacturer: Ford

The Pinto which is known for an explosive rear end has been called “the most dangerous car in the world”. My grandmother even had this car. Does that make it a bad car? No, why? If that made it the most dangerous car in the world, we would've included the Ferrari 458 Italia (for similar reasons). We would have included Pagani. I could go on. But you get the point.

Much like the Chevette, this car was light weighing 2,015-2,270 lbs. It was also related to the Mustang II. It's a shame we do not see these racing around Laguna Seca.

The Ford LTD Crown Victoria – In 1979, the Crown Victoria name was revived by Ford (from the original 1955-56 top of the range Fairlane coupe) for the upper level trim trim package on the Ford LTD replacing the LTD Landau. These cars had a Targa like chrome band across the roof usually paired with a Landau vinyl roof. While the chrome band was unique to the LTD Crown Victoria, the vinyl roof was a common option on its Lincoln Mercury counterparts, the Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car. The car was available in Coupe, Sedan, and Station Wagon body styles through 1987. This (unlike many vehicles) only got two engines and one transmission.

Both of the engines were V8s and you could only get a 4 speed automatic. While these are still used, they are only used as commuters.

Manufacturer: Chevrolet

The Chevrolet Celebrity, while I did make a disclaimer earlier. I do not like this car, but instead of hating on it, I'm going to give you some information. The Chevrolet Celebrity was based on the front wheel drive A-body platform shared with the Buick Century, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and the Pontiac 6000.

GM had previously used the “Celebrity” name as a body style design on pillared Oldsmobile Sedans in the 1960s. This vehicle was also front wheel drive and mostly has V6 engines with one being an I4. It even had a Eurosport Variant. No one gives this car a second lease on life.

The Chevette, a far cry from the actual Vette. Not to be mistaken for a Pet. Although nothing to Fret, as it's not a Vette. (like that? I thought it was pretty good.)

The Chevette is a light car weighing only 2,035lbs. It had three engines, though all of them were four cylinders. The Chevette itself was initially available only as a two door hatchback with a 1.4 L OHV or 1.6 LOHC gasoline inline four engine. Engines produced from 53 to 60 horsepower driving the rear wheels. A four speed manual transmission was standard while a three speed automatic transmission was optional.
Along with the others though. This is the subject of ridicule.

Manufacturer: Buick

The Buick Electra, no! It's not an electric car. (Although you'd be forgiven thinking so given the name). The Electra you see here is the sixth generation. This car only came with three V6 engines and a 4 speed automatic.

Unlike a lot of cars on this article though, it's not light. It weights between 3,300-3,600 pounds. Ouch! You could also get a coupe though. The long running Electra name was dropped from Buick's lineup at the end of the 1990 model year.

Starting in 1991, “Park Avenue” became a distinct model instead of a trim design as it had been in the past. Still, not a terrible car though.

The Buick Century, the car that did not last for even half a century. This car only had V6s except for two I4's. It came in coupe, sedan and wagon body styles. It had two 4 speed automatic transmissions and a 3 speed automatic. The Century received a facelift for 1989. It changed the body a bit. It was given a more rounded roof line but nothing drastic.

I think it would be pretty interesting to see this upgraded and then used as taxis. (Given the fact a lot of 80's cars have a plush ride).

Manufacturer: Chrysler

The 5th Avenue, the car with class, style and I disliked it. “That car is such a granddads car”. You also got two engines – A 5.2 L LA V8, it also had a 225 cu in (3.7 L) I6. It also had two 3 speed automatics. This would also make an interesting Taxi vehicle or maybe an Uber vehicle. Either way, this vehicle has a lot of potential.

The Fifth Avenue far outsold its Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Grand Fury siblings, with a much greater proportion of sales going to private customers since its higher price tag. Production peaked at 118,000 cars for 1986 and the Fifth Avenue stand out in a by now K-¬car dominated lineup as Chrysler's lone concession to traditional RWD American sedans.

Although it takes a trained eye to catch changes in the M-body Fifth Avenue, there were a few during its six year run.

Yes, Chrysler did an E-Class which is not to be confused with the Mercedes version.
Although Chrysler's E-Class is a luxury vehicle. When I was searched and discovered in Wikipedia it was stated it was related to the Dodge 600. You may be wondering “what's so interesting about that?”

Look at the E – Class. It looks like a more luxurious Lancer. Almost, it's an E-body. Whereas the Lancer is an H – body. An interesting little fact is not it? The Chrysler E – Class was a midsize car. Introduced in 1983 on a stretched version of the Chrysler K platform, the E-Class was a less expensive, less equipped version of the similar 1983 New Yorker.

It was targeted at those who wanted Chrysler luxury at a more affordable price than the flagship New Yorker. Due to this reason, the E-Class is the replacement for the 1981 Newport which previously was Chrysler's cheaper and more basic version of the New Yorker.

The E-Class was originally to be called the “Grand LeBaron”. However Chrysler decided to name it “E-Class” in reference to the new E-platform.

Ironically, it looks like the Chrysler LeBaron GTS. (The LeBaron is actually based off the Lancer). I guess Chrysler did get the LeBaron name on a Sedan. Either way, this would be forgotten. Never to have its potential actually used.

Manufacturer: Lincoln

Up next is the Lincoln Continental Mark VII. Long name right? Pretty good looking car! However, it's not a light vehicle weighing at at 3,748 pounds.

To put that into perspective, a Challenger V6 weighs just less than 4,000 pounds. Anyways, this vehicle had two engines – an A 4.9cc (302 cu in) Windsor V8 and a 2.4cc (149 cu in) BMW M21 TD I6. (I find that I6 to be interesting). It also (unsurprisingly) had two 4 speed automatics.

The Continental Mark VII, later shortened to just Mark VII, is a rear wheel drive luxury coupe that was produced by Lincoln. Introduced in August 1983 for the 1984 model year, the Continental Mark VII shared its platform with the Ford Thunderbird, Mercury Cougar, and Lincoln Continental (the Ford Fox platform from the code name of the first program using the platform).

Can I just add, some of the vehicles in this list went through more than 3 factories … Talk about a waste of taxpayer dollars. Aside from that though, we will never see a modified version made into the perfect cruiser.

Our second in this brand is Lincoln Versailles another long name and also a long car. The Lincoln Versailles is a compact luxury car that was marketed by the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company. A re¬badged variant of the Mercury Monarch and Ford Granada, the Lincoln Versailles was sold from the 1977 to the 1980 model years.

It's also heavy .. quite heavy, weighing in at 3,827-3,915 pounds.

During the mid¬ 1970s, the Lincoln division of Ford bought to expand its model range for multiple reasons. In comparison to the four distinct luxury model lines offered by Cadillac and the three offered by Chrysler (including Imperial), Lincoln offered only two distinct model lines in 1975.

While sales of large luxury cars went on to rebound after the 1973 oil crisis, its impact led to the rise of imported cars. While it may not have done well well then it could have potential now.

You're probably wondering what my point is in all this. I'm going to explain and stop torturing you with history …

You see. 80's cars (as I said at the distant beginning) either are hated or dissed upon. Most of the time, not for good reasons such as 'It's Wrong Wheel Drive' or 'They are ugly square boxes', anything of that sort.

Look at the Buick Electra, cut the rear portion of the roof off, open up the trunk and you have yourself a Ute. Just think about it, a Cobalt SS powered Buick Electra Ute. Or even an LS powered Electra Ute or a Dodge Shadow race car that is not used for banger racing.

The opportunities these cars present is more than you'd think. Have any of you seen Pizza Hut's new delivery car? It's a Chevrolet spark with an oven in it. That could've been a comfortable Lincoln Versailles with an oven in the back. This car is chilling down the street without a gangsta style lowrider.

Just riding in style while delivering pizzas and more pizzas then the Spark could handle at that.

Or take the Chevette and turn it into the perfect practice vehicle for stunts. 80's American cars are not awful. They're a canvas for the imagination to run wild with. It does not take much to turn these forgotten beasts into something amazing.

So please, stop the hate and use your imagination to make them whatever you want. A rally car, a taxi you name it!

Was The 80’s the Death of the American Petrol Head? (Part 2)

** The GLHS **

The GLHS was the fastest with 175 horsepower and 175 lb-ft. This was not a tool for the track, it was a weapon of mass destruction. It had a modified Garrett Turbo I engine, a long runner tuned intake (2 pieces) manifold, and an intercooler. The engine had a compression ratio of 8.5: 1, a maximum boost of 12 psi. Because of all this, it could do the 060 mph in an incredible 6.70 seconds and the quarter mile in 14.7 seconds at 94 mph. It also dropped.88 g on the skid pad.

Rather than continuing to produce Shelby inspired Dodges, Carroll began to build actual Shelbys at his new facility in Whittier, California. These were cars he purchased from Dodge, modified, and then sold himself through select Dodge dealerships. These vehicles were produced in limited numbers. Each model was a one year run and all were given a numbered dash plaque.

The suspension was reworked with adjustable low-pressure gas charged Koni front struts and rear shocks. The standard 1in. front and 5 / 8in. rear swaybars were retained, as well as the factory brakes and steering. Shelby Centurion 15×6 in cast aluminum wheels were surrounded by 205 / 50VR15 Goodyear Gatorbacks.

With the additional power, it now had a top speed of 130 mph. All of this bundle of brilliance for what cost? At the time, it was only 11 grand. It was not just Shelby tuning Dodges though, as Dodge themselves got into the game with products of their own. Products like the 1984 Dodge Colt Turbo. Sure, it may have been a Mitsubishi, but that did not deter this vehicle from being fast. Sure, it only had a 060mph in 8.9 Seconds and only 103 horsepower. That was not the point of the Colt. It was a handling machine meant to be more of Lotus Elise, then Chevrolet Camaro.

It was lighter than Alfa Romeo 4C light. It may have only 103 horsepower, but it only weighed 1,896 pounds (or 860 kg). It also had a top speed of 112 mph. Not much, but like the Miata … It does not need to be.

“Now, in this corner, we have the Dodge Omni GLH Packing 110 horsepower (82 kw).

In the other corner we have … Where did they go? Were they scared off?

Appropriately so … ”

The Omni GLH was a great hot hatch. It was fast, fun, light, nimble, cheap and frivolous. This is a classic. It's not as much of a classic as the GNX; yet still a classic in its own right.

This car is a fast little bugger stock, it's a jammy bugger when you modify it. This is also a very light car, weighing in at less than 2,400 pounds. While we do not see many of these, they still prove that Dodge can make a proper small car … A proper hot hatch, but the GLH was not the only “GLH” in the series.

You then had the GLHT. It was basically a GLH with a turbocharged engine. Although it was much more powerful, power was now raised to 146 horsepower (108 kw) and 170 lb-ft. Making it one of the faster cars in the trio, this car went from 0-60mph in 8.1 seconds and a quarter mile in 16.2 seconds at 85.5. It could reach a top speed of 119.

The GLH turbo was upgraded to equal length half shafts. Even though it was just (pretty much) an engine upgrade, that did not take away from anything. It was still an amazing hot hatch.

Then we have the car that nobodyembers. The Dodge Shadow ES, while the '87 looks better than the '89, they are good cars either way. These are very fun cars to drive too. Like many of the cars on this list, the Shadow was (and still is) a very light car. Weighing in at 2,535 pounds (or 1150 kg) it had 146 horsepower and 170 lb-ft.
This car was less powerful than some of the cars on this list, and a bit heavier. But this was not a Shelby tuned Shadow. So it was not going to be as racing focused, despite that they were still very good fun to drive.

This is the canvas Shelby used to craft the CSX from his very hands. And it's a good little packet from the factory. He essentially turned the Shadow into an Evo except without the AWD. Much like almost all the cars on this list, it is turbocharged. It uses the same engine in the following cars:

Dodge Shelby Charger

Shelby CSX

Shelby Lancer

Dodge Daytona

That's a lot of cars to have the same engine. But once 1989 came around, the power was increased to 150 horsepower and 180 lbft. While it was not as good looking as the previous year, he did a little surprise with the refreshed model.

That's right! We got a convertible. In 1991, Dodge introduced the convertible Shadow. It was a pretty good convertible at that! You could get an ES trim level, meaning you could get a convertible with 150 horsepower and 180 lbft. Since it was light, it was pretty quick.

But wait, there is more !!!

Could it be? Yes, Another sedan! The Dodge Spirit R / T with 224 horsepower and 218 lb-ft. This was the Charger Hellcat of its time. Because it has the most power of all vehicles on this list, it has the highest top speed. It has a top speed of 141 mph. That's 190 E territory. It could do the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds, at 97 mph. This was tubular in its day. (Yes I had to look that up). Its heads were also designed by Lotus. At the time, it was the fastest four door sedan in America. It was also fuel efficient, reaching 26 mpg on the highway.

It was very, very cheap. Making it one of the fastest cars you could get for less than 20 grand. As great as this was, it's not as memorable as the other cars on this list. (Aside from the Shadow and Colt) … Although, they are still fairly popular within a certain group of people. ** Cough **

TurboDodge guys ** Cough **

The Dodge Daytona is one of the coolest vehicles on this list. It produced 146 horsepower (109 kw) and 170 lb-ft. It is a bit heavier than some of the other vehicles on this list. It weighs 2,701 pounds (or 1225 kg). It handled so well, it beat the Porsche 924.

Do not believe me? Here you go:

Read it and weep or admire. It had a Garret T3 Turbo. With 2 valves per cylinder. A lot of people love this car to this day, someone even swapped the 2.2 Liter turbo for a 5.7 Liter Hemi in the heads and converted it to RWD. But that is beside the point. It also got a T-top option for '86. Later on in its life, it gained popup headlights and a new variant. It was called the Shelby Z. It earned more horsepower from 146 to 174 horsepower (130 kw), and 200 lb-ft, as well as a heavy duty A555 transaxle with Getrag gears. (If you want more info, I'll provide links at the end of the article).

The Dodge Caravan ES Turbo, the total sleeper. Much like some of the vehicles on this list, it makes 150 horsepower and 170 lb-ft. Not the lightest vehicle on this list, it weighs at at 3,086 pounds. It's lighter and faster than some of the vehicles to come. It has a top speed of 110 mph, not very high. But for a van in the 1980's, that's pretty brisk. Combine that with a 060mph in 9.4 seconds, and you have the makings of a sleeper for sleepers.

Ford came along for the ride. They showed that the 80's were not the end with the Foxbody Mustang. Foxbodies are very popular now, they're known as a good platform for pretty much anything. They are the lightest of all the Mustangs. Once upgraded to a Dart block, can easily handle 900 HP. But these go beyond just drag racing. Because they are light and small, they make good budget track cars.

You could get a whole armada of engines. Here is the list:

2.3 L (140 cu in) 86 hp I4

2.3 L (140 cu in) turbocharged I4

3.3 L (201 cu in) I6 85 hp

2.8 L (171 cu in) V6

3.8 L (232 cu in) Essex V6

4.2 L (256 cu in) V8

302 cu in (4.9 L) Windsor V8

Quite a lot, is not it? It was also chosen as the pace for the Indy 500, they also made a special edition celebrating this. Over 10,000 were made. Unlike the Daytona, you could get a convertible or just a standard Coupe. The Fastback was the option if you wanted a sportier Mustang. The Daytona was just a fastback / hatch from the factory.

There was also a variety of transmissions. From a 4 or 5 speed manual or a 3 or 4 speed automatic. But who could forget the Mustang SVO? This is the Foxbody we all remember. It had 200 horsepower, 240 lb-ft. and the new (for the time) “aero” headlights. The Mustang was not the only car on the “Foxbody” platform though, we also had the Thunderbird. Think of it as a Chrysler 300 Coupe. It was bigger than the Mustang and more luxurious. In a weird way, it reminds me of the Bentley Continental.

The Turbo Coupe had a 2.3 Liter OHC (Over Head Cam) engine with EFI, an Air to Air Intercooler and a 5Speed Manual transmission with overdrive. This was a luxury coupe with a dark side. At first, the engine produced 142 horsepower, but was then later increased to 155 horsepower. As expected, this was heavier than the Mustang. It was also bigger. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. While the Mustang was more of a sports car, the Thunderbird was more of a cruiser. A GT car if you will.

Sadly, this is a much underrated car. Not getting as much love as the Foxbody which is ironic really, given that it's based on the same platform. It's just a cast away, losing the glory it once had to the merciless mistress of time. Destined to a life of misery … it's a great shame, because had people seen the potential in this car …
We may have seen more cruisers from this forgotten beast.
